A recurring performance persona, “Dr. Pullina”, The Pull String Therapist, is a psychotherapist with a pull string. Audience members approach the silent, listening doctor to interact towards guided reflection. They are offered a select pre-recorded question or statement previously asked by a “real” therapist. Audience members respond authentically, inciting a compassionate verbal response from Dr. Pullina. This performance is an exercise in communication and vulnerability between artist and audience.
The Pull String Therapist was born in 2018, as I prepared to leave my communities in New York City - including my therapist. I wanted to take the therapeutic lessons with me, and share them with others.
I embody various roles in play; often personas with jobs, to create containers for my own social learning.
